The United Nations International Day of Peace is celebrated annually on
September 21. The Kootenay Region Branch of the UNAC holds a rally to
mark this day of peace and assess the record of the year. A year where
Canada has retreated from its historic role of support for United
Nations peace making and peace keeping to join with the United States in
outright armed interventionism.
We shall have speakers addressing those conflicts in which Canada is
participating, as well as others in the Middle East. The emphasis will
be on what this is doing to the child and the child’s mother. Modern
war, no matter who fights, is a war against people most of whom are
women and children.
What can you do? First make a statement for peace by attending the
rally. Listen to the speakers. Offer your own suggestions on the open
mic. Help us keep Canada a safe place and build a culture where peace is
the norm, the natural way.
Please join us at the Castlegar and District Heritage Museum, Thursday
September 21 at 6:00 pm for a one hour program followed by a social with
coffee, juice and doughnuts.
